CLEVELAND, Tenn. --- The Mississippi College baseball team let a late lead slip away in a 7-6 loss to Lee University on Monday afternoon at Olympic Field.
The Choctaws (7-14, 2-12 GSC) had a big start in the game, opening with a three-run first inning on the strength of a two-run single by junior
Hunter Hall that scored juniors
Caleb Upton and
Toler Robinson.
The Flames (16-7-1, 6-7-1 GSC) would take their first lead of the game when Trenton Hill hit a two-run home run in the third inning, taking a 4-3 advantage.
After Lee added a run in the fourth, the score would remain 5-3 until the Choctaws put up three runs in the seventh inning. The big hit came from sophomore
Hunter Bolin, who drove in freshman
Kyle Smith and senior
Akiko Thompson with a double.
The Flames would tie the game in their half of the seventh when Luke Toms drove in a run with a single, tying the game at 6-6. The game-winning hit came with two outs in the eighth inning when Nathan Wierzgac doubled home a run.
Junior
Taylor Olsen had a solid outing for the Choctaws on the mound, scattering eight hits with four strikeouts over 6.0 innings. Senior
Andy Olmsted took the loss for MC, giving up one earned run over 2.0 innings.
Bolin, Hall and Smith led the MC offense with two hits apiece, while Hall had a team-high two RBI.
The Choctaws will be back in action on Thursday when they will host Selma University at 2:00 p.m.
