CLEVELAND, Tenn. --- The Mississippi College baseball team fell twice to Lee University on Sunday afternoon at Olympic Field.
The Choctaws (7-13, 2-11 GSC) opened the day with a lead but dropped the first game to the Flames (15-7-1, 6-6-1 GSC), 8-6. Lee jumped out in the second game with a 9-0 victory.
Junior
Colton Caver gave MC a big start with a two-run home run, his first of the season, in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. The Choctaws would add another run in the second as junior
Logan Ferrell came in to score after a one-out double.
The Flames began their comeback in the fourth inning with a four-run frame to take the lead, highlighted by a three-run home run from MJ Brown.
They would add three more runs in the sixth to take a 7-3 lead, but junior
Hunter Hall drew a bases loaded walk to score junior
Caleb Upton to cut the lead to 7-4 in the eighth inning.
After Lee added an inurance run in their half of the eighth, Upton would cut the score in half with a two-run home run in the ninth. The Choctaws would bring the go-ahead run to the plate, but the Flames escaped with the victory.
Upton led the MC offense, going 4-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Junior
Toler Robinson had three hits in the game, while senior
Akiko Thompson had two base-knocks.
Senior
Brooks Fortenberry took the loss for MC, his first of the season, giving up 10 hits and seven earned runs. Dustin Lawson scattered 10 hits over 7.1 innings to take the win, while Trenton Hill got the final out for his first save of the season.
Hill would get the win in the second game as he started and tossed 5.0 innings on the mound. The Flames struck out 10 and allowed just two hits in the game.
The Flames scored six runs in the fourth, highlighted by a two-run home run from Ben Holland.
The Choctaws and the Flames will be back in action on Monday for the series finale at 12:00 p.m. (Central).
