SOFTBALL PREVIEW: Lee

CLEVELAND, Tenn. --- The Mississippi College softball team will be on the road this weekend for a three-game series with Lee University, beginning with a doubleheader on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. (Central). The teams will wrap up the series on Monday with a single game at 12:00 p.m. (Central).

SERIES RECORD
This will be the second meeting between the two schools, with the first coming last season in the NCCAA MidEast Region Tournament, an 11-4 win for the Lady Flames. MC and Lee are currently in transition to Division II and the Gulf South Conference with Lee being a full member in 2015-16 and MC coming in 2016-17.

NOTES ON THE LADY CHOCTAWS
Brooke O'Hair is in her 9th season as the head coach at Misisissippi College, earning her 200th career win last season. O'Hair opened her successful stint with 38-10 record and an American Southwest Conference East Division championship. The Lady Choctaws advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament that season and also qualified for the postseason tournament in 2010 and 2011.

The Lady Choctaws opened the season at 3-3, but they have been on a roll since then, going 10-3 in their last 13 games. MC has yet to lose a GSC series in their first year back in the league, including picking up a series sweep of Union in late February.

The Lady Choctaws swept a doubleheader with Tennessee Temple on Thursday in Chattanooga, picking up 9-1 and 9-4 wins on the road. Carlie Sargent pitched 4.0 hitless innings with nine strikeouts in the opener, while the MC offense tallied a season-high 17 hits in the second game.

Sophomore Megan Everett has been on fire at the plate over the last five games, going 13-for-19 (.684) with 12 RBI and four runs scored. She went 7-for-8 with seven RBI and four runs scored in the doubleheader sweep of TN Temple on Thursday. After hitting .143 over the first six games, Everett has bumped her average up to .419 on the season.

Senior Shay Mickens has gotten her offense going in the last five games, as well, going 11-for-20 (.550) with nine runs scored and four stolen bases. After striking out 13 times over the first 14 games, she has only one strikeout over the last five contests.

Senior Brooke Smitherman had a big game in the finale against TN Temple on Thursday, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, a double and a run scored. Opponents have attempted to not allow the slugger to hurt them this season, walking the Prattville native 17 times. She has now been issued 132 career free passes, the most in school history.

Sargent has been a force in the circle for the Lady Choctaws, going 6-0 in her last six starts. Over her last two outings against West Georgia and TN Temple, she has tossed 11.0 innings, allowing one earned run with 13 strikeouts. The Oxford, Ala. native is 9-1 with a 1.68 ERA and has pitched five complete games this season.
Senior Lacie Patterson was the only Lady Choctaw regular not to see time in the circle against TN Temple. In her last start against West Georgia, the Southaven native gave up just three hits and one earned run with seven strikeouts. Unfortunately, the MC offense could only muster one run in a 3-1 loss.
