Susan Musselwhite enters her 31st year with Mississippi College, including 20-plus years as Senior Woman Administrator. Since 2006 Musselwhite has served as the Assistant Athletic Director and in June of 2017, Musselwhite was promoted to Associate Athletic Director for Compliance while maintaining her position as SWA. She is also designated as the Deputy Title IX Director for athletics.
ADMINISTRATIVE
As the Associate Athletic Director of Compliance & SWA, Musselwhite is involved in many facets of the day to day internal operations of the athletic department.
Musselwhite was a part of the leadership team that successfully navigated Mississippi College through the NCAA Division II membership process. A process that extended over a three year period from 2013-2016. MC became a full, active member of Division II and the Gulf South Conference in July of 2016.
Musselwhite serves as a liaison between Mississippi College and the NCAA and is responsible for overseeing compliance with all NCAA and Gulf South Conference rules, including rules education and enforcement for the university.
Over her 30-year career at Mississippi College, Musselwhite has served the institution in multiple roles with various responsibilities and in 2014 she was recognized with the Van “Doc” Quick Distinguished Staff Award for her commitment and dedication to the university.
COACHING
Before being named Assistant Athletic Director in the fall of 2006, Musselwhite served as the Head Softball Coach at Mississippi College. After completing a four year career and serving one as a graduate assistant, Musselwhite took over the softball program in its Division III inception and guided the program to 7 consecutive 20+ win seasons and 9 winning seasons in a row.
After joining the American Southwest Conference in 1998, Coach Musselwhite led the Lady Choctaws to a 205-150 overall record. In 1999, the Lady Choctaws finished 22-9, which at that time, ranked as one of the best records in school history. In 2002, the Lady Choctaws produced a 26-14 record and finished second overall after losing to East Texas Baptist in the ASC Championship game. In 2005, Musselwhite received Co-Coach of the Year honors that she shared with Louisiana College coach Tim Whitman. The 2006 season concluded with the Lady Choctaws finishing with a 24-16 overall record and a third place finish after losing in the semi-final game of the ASC Championship Tournament. Several Lady Choctaws received post season honors and Musselwhite was named the “East Division Coach of the Year.”
PERSONAL
A native of Southaven, Mississippi, Musselwhite received her Bachelor of Education degree from Mississippi College in December of 1994 and completed her Masters of Education in August of 1996. Musselwhite was inducted into the Mississippi College Sports Hall of Fame in April 2006 and also serves as an adjunct instructor in the Department of Kinesiology.
