Kristen Sampson scored 24 points, but the Mississippi College women's basketball team dropped a road game at Valdosta State University, 67-58, on Thursday night in The Complex.
The Lady Choctaws (8-12, 4-12 GSC) were led by the guard from Jackson, Miss., who went 9-of-14 from the field and tied a season-high by going 3-of-5 from the three-point line. She was also 3-of-4 from the free throw line with four rebounds and two steals.
As a team, MC went 22-of-43 (51%) from the field, but 27 turnovers, including 16 giveaways in the second half allowed the Blazers (11-11, 7-9 GSC) to erase an early deficit. VSU also went 23-of-35 (66%) from the free throw line, while the Lady Choctaws were 9-of-12 (75%).
With 7:17 remaining in the first half, junior
Ashley Minor knocked down a jump shot to give MC a 28-19 lead. The Blazers would go on a 16-4 run to close the half and take a 35-32 advantage into the halftime break.
VSU went ahead by as many as 10 points with 3:43 remaining, but Sampson went on a personal 4-0 run to cut the lead to 60-54 with 2:25 remaining. Despite holding the Blazers to no made field goals over the final 4:23, MC could not get any closer, dropping their fifth straight game.

Allie Hill poured in nine points for the Lady Choctaws with a team-high four assists, while sophomore
Zaneta Kubicka scored four points with a team-high seven rebounds and a blocked shot.
April Thomas led Valdosta with 22 points, going 7-of-19 from the field and 6-of-7 from the free throw line. Maggie Davis (17 pts) and Imari Simpson (10 pts) also scored in double-figures for the Blazers.
The Lady Choctaws will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Pensacola to face West Florida at 2:00 p.m.
