Ashley Minor scored 18 points for the second straight game, but the Mississippi College women's basketball team lost to Shorter University, 70-57, on Saturday afternoon at the Winthrop-King Centre.
The Lady Choctaws (8-17, 4-17 GSC) had two players score in double-figures as Minor went 6-of-15 from the field and 6-of-6 from the free throw line. The Natchez native tallied five steals to give her 68 on the year, the 5th-highest total in school history.
Junior
Kristen Sampson went 4-of-9 from the field to score 14 points, while senior
AnnMarie Harris had seven points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
The Lady Hawks (12-15, 8-13 GSC) held their largest lead of the game at 54-40 with 8:20 left in the game, but MC went on a 15-9 run to cut the lead to eight points with 2:59 remaining. Shorter was able to pull away late and hand the Lady Choctaws their 10th straight loss.
The teams split the season series with the home teams winning each game after MC picked up a 61-54 win in Clinton on January 10th.
Ieshia Alexander led all scorers with 19 points for Shorter, going 5-of-9 from the field and 9-of-10 from the free throw line.
The Lady Choctaws will wrap up the 2014-15 season on Thursday night when they travel to Cleveland, Miss. to face rival Delta State at 5:30 pm.
