Hot-Shooting Flames Sink Choctaws, 92-85

CLEVELAND, Tenn. --- The Mississippi College men's basketball team could not overcome a hot-shooting Lee University squad that went 11-of-21 from the three-point line in a 92-85 loss on Thursday night in the Paul Dana Walker Arena.

The Choctaws (11-11, 9-11 GSC) trailed by as many as eight points in the first half, but when junior Tristan Moore made 2-of-3 free throws in the final seconds, the score was just 37-36 at the half in favor of the Flames (13-12, 8-12 GSC).

As the second half opened, a layup by Moore with 17:04 remaining gave MC their largest lead of the game at 46-42. The Senatobia native finished with 21 points, three steals and three assists as he went 10-of-13 from the charity stripe.

The Flames answered with a 17-2 run and when Elgrin Wilson converted a layup with 11:59 remaining, Lee had their largest lead of the game at 60-51.

The Choctaws went on a run of their own and when freshman Stacey Mack, who tallied his fourth double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds, scored with 8:43 remaining, the game was tied, 63-63.

While the Choctaws would not lead the rest of the game, they kept the game close and had the score at 78-76 with just over two minutes remaining, but the Flames were able to pull away for the victory.

Junior Tory Rice led four Choctaws in double-figures with 23 points and seven rebounds. Senior Emmanuel Ezejiofo had 17 points, eight rebounds and a team-high four assists on the night.

Stedmon Ford led all scorers with 29 points, while Chase Cullen had 21 and Cory Billingsley had 17 for the Flames.

The Choctaws will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Rome, Ga. to face Shoter University at 3:00 pm (Central).
