ROME, Ga. --- The Mississippi College men's basketball team scored 51 points in an 11-minute span of the second half, but Shorter University held on for a 101-91 victory on Saturday afternoon at the Winthrop-King Centre.

The Choctaws (11-12, 9-12 GSC) shot just 27% from the field in the first half and when Trevor McDade made two free throws for the Hawks (18-9, 13-8 GSC) at the 12:47 mark, Shorter had their largest lead of the game at 68-36.

In just over two minutes, MC went on a 16-2 run and cut the lead to 70-52 with 9:29 remaining as junior Tristan Moore scored two of his 23 points in the game.

The Hawks maintained the big lead until the Choctaws went on an 11-2 run and a three-pointer by senior Jay Case with 1:16 made the score 94-87. Shorter was able to hold on over the final minute to clinch the victory.
