CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's tennis team opened the 2015 season on Wednesday with a 6-3 loss to Division I Alcorn State at the MC Tennis Complex.
The Choctaws (0-1) began the match with a victory at #1 doubles as freshmen
Lucio Menezes and
Petar Damjanovic took down Ernesto Santillan and Nikita Kostikov by a score of 8-5. The Braves grabbed wins at the #2 and #3 doubles to take a 2-1 advantage going into singles play.
Freshman
Joan Valy opened play with a win over Santillan at the #1 singles, 7-5, 6-4. Menezes also grabbed a victory at #2 singles over Kostikov in three sets, 2-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-4.
ASU would sweep the final four matches to collect the victory as senior
Dudley Lampton went to three sets with Kilian Salgado, falling 6-4, 4-6, 10-4.
The Choctaws will be back in action this weekend at the Ouachita Baptist Invitational in Arkadelphia, Ark. They will face OBU at 5:00 p.m. on Friday and Southwest Baptist at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
