PENSACOLA, Fla. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team dropped to 2-6 and 0-5 in Gulf South Conference play as the squad fell 77-58 at the University of West Florida on Thursday evening. UWF improved to 5-4 and 3-2 in conference action.
Carla Clemmons led the team with 15 points while
Kristen Sampson added 14 points. It marks the 25th career contest in double figures for Sampson while Clemmons garnered her sixth of the season. Roberts totaled her seventh, double-digit scoring effort with 10 points.
Toni Woods grabbed a team-best 14 rebounds – one off tying her career-high. It marks the fifth outing that the Lafayette, La., native has the Lady Choctaws on the glass this season.
MC shot 31.1 percent from the field on the night and connected on 68.2 percent from the free throw line.
After trailing 40-29 at the break, MC opened the third quarter with a 7-3 run to clip the Argos advantage to single digits at 43-36. UWF quickly pushed the lead back out to double digits reaching as much as a 19-point lead with five minutes remaining in the quarter.
The Navy and Gold attempted another run midway through the final quarter easing the UWF advantage to 62-53, but a quick bucket by Jasmine Wigfall pushed the lead back to double digits and the Argos never looked back. Wigfall finished with 12 points.
Kelly Preston, Katie Bobos and Alex Coyne paced UWF as they each totaled double-doubles in the contest. Preston led the team with 17 points as Bobos added 16 points. The duo tied for the team-lead with 11 rebounds each. Coyne added 11 points along with 11 assists.
UWF tallied a 42.1 clip from the floor, including 33.3 percent from behind the arc. The Argos connected on just 52.9 percent from the charity stripe.
Mississippi College returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 19 as it travels to Valdosta, Ga., to face Valdosta State. Tip is slated for 1 p.m. central at The Complex.
