CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's basketball team broke the century mark for the first time since 2014 in a 117-60 rout of North American University. The win improves MC to 2-1 on the campaign.
Every member of the Choctaw squad saw action and scored in the contest over the Stallions as MC scored 100-plus points for the first time since Nov. 28, 2009 with 103 vs. Hardin-Simmons. The 117 points is the most points scored by the Navy and Gold since it posted 110 vs. Sul Ross State on Jan. 9, 2014.
Johnny Rucker paced the Navy and Gold with 19 points while
Tory Rice added 17.
Byron McCall garnered a double-double in the affair with 10 points and a team-best 12 rebounds.
MC, which held a 50-point advantage in points in the paint, shot 63 percent from the floor, including a 58.8 clip from behind the arc. The Choctaw defense forced 18 turnovers and capitalized on the NAU miscues with 26 points.
Mississippi College opened the contest behind a 24-3 run and capped the first 20 minutes as DeOndre Hayes heaved a three-quarter court shot that drew the bottom of the net to send the Choctaws in at the intermission up 56-23.
The Navy and Gold didn't let off the accelerator in the second stanza as it reached a 40-point advantage with 12:29 remaining in the contest. MC reached its largest lead of the game, 59 (117-58), with 32 seconds left on a McCall jumper.
Ronald McCuien led NAU with 17 points.
Mississippi College returns to the hardwood on Saturday, Nov. 28 as it welcomes the College of Faith to A.E. Wood Coliseum. Tip is set for 4 p.m.
