CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team secured a season sweep of the University of West Georgia as the Lady Choctaws (3-23, 2-13 Gulf South Conference) claimed a 3-1 victory in conference play.
 
"We felt good going into tonight and getting a win, because of the work and things we've seen in the last few practices," said head coach Peter Cosmiano. "We manipulated our offense to go quicker to the middle against West Alabama and tonight against West Georgia. I felt like tonight's win was a complete game by the team and we're proud to see that from them. Everybody contributed in the ways we asked them to this week and we feel like we made some huge mental strides and were willing to grow."
 
Jenna Campbell led the squad with 10 kills on the night. Kayana Mitchell added nine followed by eight from Madison Frazier. A total of 11 Lady Choctaws recorded a kill in the match as the squad posted 46 on the night – fourth-best total this season.
 
Bailee Berringer distributed a team-best 21 assists – marking the Dickinson, Texas, native's sixth game with 20-plus assists. Sydney Chandler inched closer to the top five in career assists with 14 on the night. The Silverhill, Ala., sophomore has tallied 762 in her two seasons and is 23 away from tying Pollyann Scruggs for fifth in program history.
 
Alex Hackett spurred the defensive effort with 23 digs on the night. Taylor Edwards joined the junior in double figures with 10. Jamila Biglow garnered a team-best, four blocks in the effort.
 
After the two teams stood deadlocked at a game each at the intermission, MC clinched the final two sets 25-21 and 25-23 and secure the match.
 
In the third set, MC held as much as 16-12 advantage, but UWG battled back to knot the contest at 21-all. Following a timeout, the Lady Choctaws ripped off the final four points, behind four straight kills from Frazier to clinch the set.
 
The Navy and Gold fell behind early in the final set, 15-11, but after quickly tying the contest at 15-all, MC recorded seven of the following eight points to take a 21-16 lead. UWG mounted a rally pulling within 24-23, but a Shelby Grace Mays' kill cinched up the second conference win this season for MC.
 
The Lady Choctaws claimed the opening set 25-19, but West Georgia answered back with a 25-23 victory in the second. The victory snapped a 12-game skid for the Navy and Gold.
 
Tiffany Ancrum and Helen Menchinger each recorded double figure kills for the Wolves. Ancrum led the squad with 13 while Menchinger added 10 kills to go along with her team-leading 11 digs. Kelcie Zimmer dished out a team-best 29 assists while Jaida Allen added five blocks on the defensive end for the Red and Blue.
 
Mississippi College returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 3 as the squad travels to nationally-ranked West Florida. Match time is slated for 6 p.m.
