MEMPHIS --- The Mississippi College volleyball team fell in straight sets in Gulf South Conference action at Christian Brothers University on Saturday afternoon.
Jenna Campbell paced the Lady Choctaws with seven kills in the match while
Bailee Berringer dished out 11 assists in the offensive effort.
Alex Hackett led the team with eight digs with six coming from
Sydney Chandler. Chandler also added six assists to improve her standing on the career assists ledger.
After falling 25-16 in the opening set, the Navy and Gold attempted to tie the match in the second set. MC gathered an early 8-3 lead in the game on a kill by
Arielle Laurent, but the Bucs retaliated to tie the contest at 14-all.
The Lady Choctaws broke the deadlock with a scoring spurt to take an 18-15 advantage, but CBU wouldn't be denied tying the contest at 20-20. A pair of kills and a service ace pushed the Red and Black up three points and the Bucs never trailed again.
CBU rode the momentum into the final set en route to a 25-9 outcome that clinched the match.
Alexis Gillis and Brinsley Cooper each tallied double-digit kills for CBU. Gillis, who also tied for the top spot in digs with 12, led the team with 15 while Cooper added 12 kills in the contest. Jessica Reber distributed 42 of the team's 46 assists in the outing. Blythe Clausen also compiled 12 digs.
Mississippi College returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 27 against West Alabama. Match time at A.E. Wood Coliseum is slated for 6 p.m.
