CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team closed the game with a 24-7 run, but it was not enough as they fell to Union University, 71-52, on Saturday afternoon at A.E. Wood Coliseum.
The Lady Choctaws (8-11, 4-11 GSC) trailed 37-17 at the half, and the Lady Bulldogs (16-3, 12-3 GSC), who sit atop the Gulf South Conference standings, extended the lead to as many as 36 with 6:06 remaining in the game. MC would finish the game strong, however, using pressure defense to score 24 points in the final six minutes.
Junior
Kristen Sampson led all scorers with 20 points, going 9-of-14 from the field with a team-high three assists. Junior
Ashley Minor finished the game with nine points and four rebounds, while senior
AnnMarie Harris had eight points and a team-high four steals. MC also went 12-of-14 from the free throw line, shooting 86%.
Emily Sissom led Union with 16 points and five assists, while Kelsey Risner had 12 points and a team-high three steals. The Lady Bulldogs went 11-of-29 (38%) from the three-point line on the day.
The Lady Choctaws will be back in action on Thursday night when they travel to face Valdosta State University at 5:00 pm (Central).
