CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team could not overcome an early onslaught by Lee University in a 66-44 loss on Monday night in A.E. Wood Coliseum.
The Lady Choctaws (7-7, 3-7 GSC) opened the game with a 3-2 lead, but the Lady Flames (9-4, 6-4 GSC) scored the next 15 points and never led by fewer than 10 points the rest of the game. They took a 35-17 lead into halftime, and while the Lady Choctaws would cut the lead to 41-30 with 14:51 to go, Lee would answer with an 8-0 run in the final minutes to clinch the win.
MC bounced back from a rough offensive start in the first half, opening the second half by going 6-of-7 from the field and 6-of-7 from the free throw line. Senior
AnnMarie Harris led the Lady Choctaws with 14 points and seven rebounds, while junior
Kristen Sampson tied a season-high with eight rebounds. Junior
Ashley Minor also poured in 13 points for MC.
Kayla Beavers led the Lady Flames with 12 points, going 4-of-8 from the three-point line. Shelby Brown and Emileigh Swafford each had 11 points, while Christina Johnson pulled down a game-high 16 rebounds.
