CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team used a big second half run to pick up a 61-54 victory over Shorter University on Saturday afternoon at A.E. Wood Coliseum.
After trailing 35-26 at the half, the Lady Choctaws (7-6, 3-6 GSC) fell behind by as many as 11 points in the second half but used a 22-4 run to take a 50-43 lead with 8:56 to go in the game. MC would not relinquish the lead as they snapped a three-game losing streak with the come-from-behind victory.
The MC defense stepped up in the second half, only allowing 19 points, while the Hawks were just 6-of-22 (27%) from the field. The Lady Choctaws are now 7-1 in games in which they hold their opponents to fewer than 60 points.
Junior
Kristen Sampson led MC with 13 points, while junior
Ashley Minor poured in 10. Senior
AnnMarie Harris tallied seven points with a team-high eight rebounds, while junior
Allie Hill also had seven points and five assists, including three big free throws to ice the game in the final minutes.
MC went 18-of-24 (75%) from the foul line in the game and shot 50% (12-of-24) from the field in the second half.Ieshia Alexander led all players with 18 points for Shorter, while Lindsey Crawford had a team-high seven rebounds.
The Lady Choctaws will be back in action on Monday night when they host Lee University at 6:00 p.m. in A.E. Wood Coliseum.
