CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team saw their season-opening four-game win streak come to a halt as they fell to West Alabama, 50-40, on Thursday night in A.E. Wood Coliseum.
The Lady Choctaws (4-1, 0-1 GSC) played their first Gulf South Conference game since the 1995-96 season and shot just 20% (10-of-49) from the field, including just 3-of-23 in the second half.
In a game that saw seven ties and eight lead changes, the score at halftime was tied 24-24. The Tigers (4-1, 1-0 GSC) would outscore MC 8-2 over the first eight minutes of the second half, pushing their lead out to 32-26.
MC would cut the score to as few as two points, but West Alabama would outscore MC 8-2 in the final two minutes to clinch the victory.
Junior
Kristen Sampson led MC's offensive attack with 10 points, going 5-of-6 from the free throw line. As a team, the Lady Choctaws were 19-of-30 from the foul line but just 1-of-17 from the three-point line.
Britney McCloud led all scorers with 17 points, going 8-of-14 from the floor to lead the Tigers. UWA shot just 17-of-51 (33%) from the field, including 7-of-25 in the second half.
The Lady Choctaws will be back in action on Saturday when they host West Georgia at 2:00 p.m. in A.E. Wood Coliseum.
