CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team had a two-game win streak snapped with a 76-69 loss to Valdosta State University on Saturday afternoon at A.E. Wood Coliseum.
In the final game of the 2014 portion of the schedule, the Lady Choctaws (6-4, 2-4 GSC) were led by junior
Kristen Sampson with 14 points, while sophomore
Kourtney Steele had 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Junior
Allie Hill and sophomore
Mollie Blair were also in double-figures with 10 points apiece.
The Lady Blazers (8-4, 4-2 GSC) jumped out to a 7-0 lead and held the advantage for most of the first half before the Lady Choctaws closed out the period on a 14-7 run to cut the lead to 40-38 at halftime.
VSU would push their lead out to a game-high 13 points at 54-41 with 13:02 remaining in the game, but MC cut the score to 64-60 with 4:34 remaining. The Lady Blazers would hold off the late charge to take the victory.
April Thomas led VSU with 19 points, going 6-of-12 from the field and 3-of-6 from the three-point line. Maggie Davis also had 17 points for the Lady Blazers, who shot 51% from the field.
The Lady Choctaws will be back in action in 2015 when they travel to face Alabama Huntsville at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 3rd.
