HUNTSVILLE, Ala. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team opened 2015 with a 78-60 loss at the University of Alabama in Huntsville on Saturday afternoon at Spragins Hall.
The Lady Choctaws (6-5, 2-5 GSC) fell behind early to the Chargers (7-6, 4-3 GSC) by a score of 22-9, but an 11-0 run cut the lead to two with 7:30 remaining in the first half. UAH, who would lead from start to finish, took a 34-28 lead into halftime. MC was able to cut the advantage down to five in the second period but could not get any closer.
Junior
Ashley Minor led MC with 18 points and five steals, going 2-of-5 from the three-point line. As a team, MC was 7-of-17 (41%) from behind the arc as Minor and juniors
Allie Hill and
Kristen Sampson also had two long balls. They were also in double-figures as Sampson had 14 points and Hill had 12. Junior
Deizarae McCoy had a team-high 11 rebounds in the contest.
Josi Saunders led UAH with 21 points, going 7-of-13 from the field and 4-of-9 from the three-point line. The Chargers, who opened the game 8-of-10 from the field, were 10-of-25 (40%) from behind the arc. Halle Jarnagin had 15 points, while Dina Saunders (14) and Jasmyne Reeves (11) were also in double-figures.
The Lady Choctaws will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Florence to face North Alabama at 6:00 p.m.
