Clinton, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's soccer team moves onto the second game of the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Tournament on Wednesday to face Palm Beach Atlantic at 2:00 p.m. (Eastern).
The Choctaws (12-5-2) earned a draw, 2-2, in their first match of the NCCAA tournament against Roberts Wesleyan College on Monday afternoon, giving each team one point in Pool A of the tournament. The tournament consists of nine teams with three pools. The winner of each, along with a wild card, will advance to the semi-finals on Friday.
The Choctaw offense is led by senior
Brian Vasquez with seven goals and 17 helpers, giving him 40 career assists to set the best mark in school history. Both
Francisco DeAnda and
Stephen Roberson lead the team with 10 goals on the season.
Leading the Choctaw defense is junior
Josh Barrera who has tallied three goals on the season including the game-winning goal in the victory over West Alabama. He has contributed to six shutouts on the season. Between the posts for the Choctaws is freshman
Humberto Pelaez with 62 saves and a 1.65 goals against average. He has faced 204 shots allowing only 27 in the back of the net.
PBA (10-6-3) offense has tallied 49 goals on the season. A balanced effort has led the Sailfish offense as Lucas DeSilva, Jermaine Metz, Daniel Pena, and Cameron Roberts have each recorded five goals.
In goal for the Sailfish is Steeven Raymont who has made 57 saves and posted a 1.32 goals against average. The Sailfish defense has allowed 206 shots by their opponents, allowing only 25 in the net.
