JACKSON, Tenn. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team went on the road for the first time this season on Thursday night, coming away with a 79-60 loss to Union University at Fred DeLay Gymnasium.
The Lady Choctaws (4-3, 0-3 GSC) trailed 58-42 with 14:37 remaining in the game, but a 12-2 run cut the lead to just six with 10 minutes to go. The Lady Bulldogs (6-1, 2-1 GSC) would go on a 19-2 run over the next seven minutes to put the game away.
Junior
Kristen Sampson led MC with 18 points, going 5-of-9 from the field and 3-of-4 from the three-point line. As a team, MC made a season-high eight from long range, shooting 43% from behind the arc. Sampson was also 5-of-5 from the foul line with a team-high five assists as MC was 10-of-11 as a team.
Juniors
Allie Hill and
Ashley Minor each had 10 points for the Lady Choctaws, while Sampson, junior
Deizarae McCoy and senior
Jaianah Matthew had five rebounds to lead the way.
DeAnna Thompson led all scorers with 24 points, going 9-of-13 from the field. Amber Rechis had 19 points, while Amy Philamlee poured in 14.
The Lady Choctaws will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Memphis to face Christian Brothers at 2:00 p.m.
