Late Goals Lift Choctaws to 5-4 Win Over Union

CLINTON, Miss. --- Late goals led Mississippi College men's soccer team to a big win over Union (Tenn.) 5-4 on Friday afternoon at Longabaugh Field.

The Choctaws (7-3, 2-2 GSC) scored twice in the final four minutes of play to pick up a GSC win. With the Choctaws trailing four to three with just four minutes remaining, junior Josh Barrera (Houston, Texas) found the back of the net in the 86th minute of play off a helper from senior Brian Vasquez (Houston, Texas) and senior Francisco DeAnda (El Paso, Texas.). With two minutes remaining in the match DeAnda scored his third goal of the season to give the Choctaws a 5-4 victory over Union (Tenn.).

The Choctaws got on the board first as DeAnda found the back of the net with an assisst by senior Stephen Roberson (Madison, Miss.) in the sixth minute of play. The Choctaws then extended their lead in the 20th minute as Roberson converted his sixth goal of the season off a helper by Vasquez.

Union (Tenn.) ( 1-8. 0-5 GSC) got on the board in the 34th minute as Alex Pratt passed it off to Paul Langford to give the Bulldogs their first goal of the match.

Sophomore Benaiah Preston (Houston, Texas) came back four minutes later with a goal for the Choctaws off an assist by Vasquez. The Choctaws entered the half with a 3-1 lead.

In the 42nd minute of play Rodrigo Zonta found the back of the net for Union to close the gap. Union scored again in the 65th minute with an unassisted goal by Alex Pratt. Union then took the lead 4-3 in the 76th minute as Lucas Lopes had his first goal of the season with a helper by Paul Langford.

The Choctaws then came back in the final four minutes of play with a goal by Barrerra and DeAnda to take the win over Union (Tenn.) 5-4.

The Choctaws will be back in action on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. to host Christian Brothers.
