Sophomore Makenzie Nieto helped lead the Mississippi College softball team to a road series win over Union University in Jackson, Tenn.
The New Hudson, Mich. native had the big blow of the final game of the three-game set, hitting a two-out grand slam in the sixth inning to give MC a 10-7 lead. In the win, Nieto drove in a career-high five RBI with two runs scored.
On the weekend, Nieto hit .455 (5-of-11) with a double, the grand slam, six RBI and four runs scored. In MC's two wins, she went 4-of-8 with four runs scored and five RBI.
Nieto and the Lady Choctaws will host Alcorn State in a mid-week, non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday (4:00 pm). They will then head to Memphis this weekend for a three-game series with Christian Brothers.
