Junior Cori Cooper has been named the MC Wright & Ferguson Female Athlete of the Week, it was announced on Monday (Mar. 5).

Cooper (Magnolia, Texas) made her debut in the circle for the Lady Choctaws this week, going 2-0 with a 1.43 ERA. She struck out an MC record 13 batters in a 7-2 win over Miles on Tuesday night, walking just one in the complete game effort.

She helped clinch a road series win over Shorter on Sunday with the team's first shutout of the season, striking out six over 5.0 innings. She now has 21 strikeouts to just three walks over her first 14.2 innings pitched this season.

Cooper and the Lady Choctaws are back in action this weekend for their first home games of the season when they host Lee University. The series is scheduled to start on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the MC Softball Complex.
