Hired in March 2025, Josh Brooks enters his first season as head coach of the Mississippi College men’s basketball program. A Mississippi College alumnus, Brooks returns to Clinton following a highly successful tenure as head coach at Belhaven University, where he transformed the Blazers into one of the top programs in the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS).
During his time at Belhaven, Brooks led the Blazers to back-to-back CCS Championship Game appearances and consecutive 20-win seasons—including a 21–5 record in 2024–25, the program’s winningest season since 2013–14. His teams also recorded consecutive 15-win seasons for the first time since 2010–12 and developed multiple All-Conference and Player of the Week honorees under his leadership.
Before his success at Belhaven, Brooks served as the head coach at Jackson Academy for four seasons, compiling a 91–48 overall record. His program made three state tournament appearances, highlighted by a runner-up finish at the Overall State Tournament in his final season. Brooks also guided the Raiders to the Overall State Final Four (2018–19) and Elite Eight (2020–21), cementing his reputation as one of the most respected coaches in the region.
Brooks is no stranger to Mississippi College basketball. From 2008–2018, he served as an assistant coach for the Choctaws, helping lead the program to six American Southwest Conference (ASC) Tournament appearances, including a 20–7 campaign in 2008–09 that saw MC reach the ASC Championship Game.
His coaching résumé also includes a standout four-year stint as head coach at Hernando High School (2004–08), where he posted a 75–41 record, won the Region 2-4A Championship (2007–08), and was named Region 2-4A Coach of the Year (2006–07). He began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Belhaven (2002–04), where he served as recruiting coordinator and helped with scouting and player development.
A native of Memphis, Tennessee, Brooks played four years of collegiate basketball at Mississippi College, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. He later earned a Master’s degree from Belhaven University.
Brooks and his wife, Marie, have two children, Avery and Mallory.
Now at the helm of his alma mater, Brooks leads a Choctaw program eager to make its mark in the Gulf South Conference, bringing with him a proven record of success, a passion for player development, and a deep love for Mississippi College basketball.
