CLINTON, Miss. — Mississippi College track & field continued its strong indoor season by earning multiple Gulf South Conference weekly honors, highlighted by three Choctaws and Lady Choctaws recognized in the league's final awards release of the season, the conference office announced Wednesday.
On the women's side, Lauren Wallace was named GSC Track Athlete of the Week, while Haylei Mason earned GSC Freshman of the Week. For the men, Matias Vasquez collected GSC Track Athlete of the Week honors.
Wallace delivered a standout performance at the Vanderbilt Indoor Music City Challenge, clocking an NCAA provisional time of 4:43.84 in the mile to finish sixth overall in a Division I-heavy field. She also helped the Lady Choctaws place fourth in the Distance Medley Relay with another NCAA provisional mark of 11:43.97.
Mason was part of the same Distance Medley Relay unit that recorded the second-fastest time in program history. The freshman ran the second leg and posted a strong 58.9 split in the provisional qualifying performance.
On the men's side, Vasquez earned conference recognition after a personal-best effort in the 400 meters at the Vanderbilt Indoor Music City Challenge. He placed 10th in a predominantly Division I field and finished with a time of 49.06, which ranks fifth in the Gulf South Conference this season.
The honors add to a successful indoor campaign for Mississippi College, which has earned multiple GSC weekly awards throughout the 2026 season on both the men's and women's sides.
The Choctaws and Lady Choctaws will now turn their attention to the upcoming Gulf South Conference Indoor Championships to close out the indoor season.
