HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Mississippi Christian lost to UAH 3-1 on Friday at SportsMED Arena in Spragins Hall. The Choctaws answered a one-point deficit in the second set to win 25-20, but dropped the other sets 14-25, 23-25 and 21-25.
The Choctaws opened the first set with the first four points, getting kills from
Audrianna Green and
Cydney Mitchell, a
Meg Paparella ace and a UAH attack error. After
Caroline Downey and
Holland Williams added early kills to help MC lead 6-2, UAH answered with a 10-point run that put The Blue and Gold behind 12-6. Williams stopped that stretch with a kill from
Mamie Fromdahl, and MC added points on a UAH error and a Paparella kill, but UAH pushed the margin to 16-8 and kept control through the middle of the set.
Cydney Mitchell and Green combined on a block for a Choctaws point at 19-11, and Williams added another late kill before UAH closed out the set, 25-14.
MC erased a 20-18 deficit by scoring the final seven points of the second set, with
Reese Regner serving the last six rallies in a 25-20 win. Earlier, the Choctaws opened with a
Meg Paparella-
Cydney Mitchell block and a Regner kill from
Rylie Widener, but UAH answered and later moved ahead 18-15. MC stayed close with a
Samarin Kipple ace, a
Mary Grace Foster kill from Fromdahl and a Downey ace before Mitchell's kill cut the margin to 20-19. Paparella tied the set with a kill from Regner, Mitchell put The Blue and Gold in front, and the closing stretch included another Paparella kill, an
Audrianna Green-Mitchell block and Mitchell's set-ending kill from Regner.
The Blue and Gold built a 21-19 edge on
Cydney Mitchell's kill from
Reese Regner, but UAH answered with five straight points and finished the third set 25-23. Earlier,
Meg Paparella opened the scoring off
Samarin Kipple's assist, and kills from
Audrianna Green, Paparella,
Harper Green and
Rhaia Davey helped the Choctaws build advantages of 4-1 and 8-4. UAH erased the 8-4 margin to tie the set at 8-8, and MC responded through a back-and-forth middle stretch with kills from Davey, Mitchell,
Audrianna Green and Paparella to move back in front at 12-10, 15-13 and 18-15. Davey supplied five kills in the set, including three Choctaws points from 17-15 through 19-17, and after UAH moved to set point at 24-21, a service error and an
Audrianna Green-
Cydney Mitchell block brought MC back within 24-23 before Kayla Ward's kill ended the set.
UAH erased the Choctaws' early 9-2 lead and took the fourth set 25-21. Earlier, MC opened with kills from
Reese Regner and
Meg Paparella, then built separation as
Cydney Mitchell had two kills and teamed with
Harper Green on a block during a stretch that put The Blue and Gold ahead 7-1.
Audrianna Green and
Rhaia Davey helped keep the margin at 12-7, but UAH answered with an eight-point push that moved the set from 14-8 MC to 15-14 UAH. The Choctaws responded with a Paparella kill, a Mitchell block and later points from Mitchell,
Harper Green, Davey and
Audrianna Green to stay even at 19-19 and 20-20, but UAH scored five of the final six points to close the set.
Cydney Mitchell led MC with 12 kills and 15.5 points while adding six total blocks and seven digs.
Samarin Kipple recorded a team-high 23 digs and added four assists and one service ace.
Reese Regner posted a team-high 24 assists and added 10 digs.
Meg Paparella finished with 10 kills, 14 digs, one ace and one block.
