CLINTON, Miss. – Mississippi College surged two spots to No. 4 in the latest NCAA Division II Baseball South Regional Rankings, released Wednesday by the NCAA. The Choctaws, previously ranked sixth, went 2-2 in the Gulf South Conference Tournament, eliminating the top two seeds in Delta State and Valdosta State.
With a current overall record of 33-21 and a 33-20 mark in Division II play, MC sits in strong position as regional tournament selections draw closer. The Choctaws leapfrogged both Lynn and Delta State in the updated rankings.
Tampa retains the top spot in the South Region, followed by West Florida and Florida Southern. Rounding out the top 10 in the South Region are Lynn (No. 5), Delta State (No. 6), Rollins (No. 7), Valdosta State (No. 8), Nova Southeastern (No. 9), and West Alabama (No. 10), all of whom remain in contention for a potential tournament berth.
The three conference champions earn automatic bids to the regional with five at-large spots remaining. The eight-team field is divided into two four-team regionals with the two regional championships meeting in a super regional. The eight super regional champs advance to Cary, N.C., vying for a national title. The NCAA Division II Baseball Selection Show is Sunday, May 11.
