OXFORD, Ala. --- Mississippi College's run at the 2025 Gulf South Conference Tournament came to an end on Tuesday, May 6 as it fell to West Alabama, 12-6, at Choccolocca Park.
Â
MC's early offensive fireworks weren't enough to hold off a late surge from West Alabama (30-22), as the Tigers erupted for eight runs over the final three innings.
Â
The Choctaws (33-21) took a 6-4 lead into the bottom of the seventh behind a pair of three-run innings, highlighted by home runs from
Jordan Evans and
JT Vance. Evans crushed a three-run shot to left-center in the sixth to give MC a two-run cushion, capping off a standout performance that included a stolen base, two runs scored, and three RBI.
Â
Vance added a two-run homer of his own in the third inning after
Korey Cooper plated the game's first run with a sacrifice fly.
Cade Gadman scored twice and collected two of the Choctaws' seven hits.
Â
West Alabama chipped away with three runs in the seventh — two of them unearned — and then pulled away with a five-run eighth. The Tigers sent nine to the plate, scoring five runs on just three hits, capitalizing on a walk and an error.
Â
Jimmy Wilson (1-4) was charged with the loss after giving up three runs — only one earned — in 2.2 innings of relief.
Taylor Ballard allowed two earned runs over 3.1 innings, while five Choctaws pitchers appeared in the game.
Â
Mississippi College awaits the NCAA Division II Baseball Selection Show on Sunday, May 11, hoping to join the regional tournament field as one of the top eight teams from the South Region.
