OXFORD, Ala. --- Mississippi College continued its dominance this season over in-state rival Delta State on Sunday, May 4, capping a Gulf South Conference Tournament elimination game with a 9–3 Gulf South Conference Tournament win at Choccolocco Park.
The victory marks the Blue and Gold's fourth straight over the No. 19-ranked Statesmen this year, outscoring them 49–10 margin across the series. With Sunday's win, Mississippi College improved to 32–20 on the season, while Delta State fell to 32–18.
Jordan Evans led the offensive onslaught, going 4-for-5 with a home run, two RBI, and three runs scored.
Bryce LaRocca added a three-run blast in the sixth inning to break the game open, finishing with four RBI.
Caleb Peterson (5–4) earned the win, scattering six hits over six innings and allowing three earned runs.
Gabe Garner closed the door with three strong, scoreless innings out of the bullpen to collect his first save of the season.
Delta State managed to cut a 5–0 deficit to 5–3 in the bottom of the sixth, thanks to a two-run homer by Dylan Coleman, but that was as close as they would get. The Choctaws answered with two runs in the eighth and two more in the ninth to seal it.
Mississippi College's offense recorded 12 hits and drew seven walks, while its pitching staff limited the Green and White to just three runs on 10 hits. Defensively, the Choctaws turned two double plays to help snuff out potential rallies.
Mississippi College continues its tournament run on Monday, May 5 as it takes on Valdosta State. First pitch is 10 a.m.
