CLEVELAND, Tenn. – Mississippi College track and field wrapped up a strong showing at the Gulf South Conference Outdoor Championships with both the men's and women's teams earning third-place finishes at Lee University's Ray Conn Sports Complex.
The Choctaw men tallied 143 points to finish third behind Alabama Huntsville and Lee, while the women's team posted 139 points for third place, trailing only Lee and Alabama Huntsville.
MC racked up multiple event wins, national marks, and personal bests over the three-day meet, headlined by several standout performances.
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS

Matthew Coleman claimed the GSC title in the javelin throw with a mark of 56.81 meters (186-4), earning 10 points.

James Miller secured a first-place finish in the hammer throw with a toss of 52.85 meters (173-4) to add another 10 points for the Choctaws.

The men's 4x400-meter relay team of Seth Hodson, Matias Vasquez, Evan Wrights, and Oliver Ollesch took first place in 3:17.67, closing the meet in championship form.

Oliver Ollesch also won the 400-meter hurdles, setting a new GSC record with a time of 52.24 seconds.

Evan Wrights earned silver in the 800 meters (1:52.54), while Braedon Methvin delivered in the distance events with a second-place finish in the 10,000 meters (31:26.30) and fourth in the 5,000 meters (14:46.73).

In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Carson Smith ran a personal-best 9:25.18, finishing seventh and moving up to No. 73 in NCAA Division II this season. Matthew Singletary (9:33.22) and Preston Speed (9:39.57 PR) rounded out top-10 finishes in the event.

Madison Flugence won the long jump with a leap of 5.91 meters (19-4.75), a new PR that ranks No. 22 nationally in Division II, scoring 10 points.

Hannah Jackson recorded a personal best of 5.55 meters (18-2.50) to finish fourth in the long jump, adding five points.

Freshman Ann Cobb also notched a PR with a mark of 4.98 meters (16-4.25), good for eighth place and one point.

Hilary Udechukwu earned the GSC title in the 400-meter hurdles, clocking 1:02.36.

Taylor Benoit had a strong all-around weekend, finishing second in both the 1,500 meters (4:32.56) and 5,000 meters (17:23.05), while placing fifth in the 800 meters (2:16.73).

Kennedy Thompson took second in the discus with a throw of 44.40 meters (145-8) — a mark that now ranks No. 62 nationally in Division II.

In the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase, Shana Sellers ran a personal-best 11:25.76, finishing third and moving to No. 101 in NCAA Division II, while Kathryn Finch added a sixth-place finish (12:04.25).

Alana Green and Livia Fischer turned in top-five finishes in both the 100 and 200 meters, while Flugence also finished runner-up in the 100-meter hurdles (14.32).
With multiple individual champions, national-level performances, and personal bests, the Choctaws capped their conference season with momentum heading into NCAA postseason competition.
Mississippi College will await final selections for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships later this month.
