CLINTON, Miss. — Mississippi College track and field closed out the 2025 regular season in dominant fashion, claiming three of the final Gulf South Conference weekly awards, the league office announced Wednesday.
Freshman Sidney Stegall was named both GSC Track Athlete of the Week and Freshman of the Week after a standout performance at the Mike McMillan Twilight Invitational. Stegall shattered his personal best in the 800 meters, finishing second with a time of 1:50.96 — a mark that not only met the NCAA Division II provisional standard, but also ranks third in the GSC this season.
The Tupelo, Miss., native picks up his first career GSC weekly honors and becomes the second Choctaw this season to earn the league's top weekly track award on the men's side. He also joins Samuel Hodson (April 23) as MC's second GSC Freshman of the Week this month.
On the women's side, senior Hilary Udechukwu continued her stellar season by earning her second GSC Track Athlete of the Week honor. Udechukwu posted a pair of NCAA Division II provisional marks, winning the 400 meters in 55.45 seconds and the 400-meter hurdles in 1:01.70. Her hurdle time set a new Mississippi College program record and currently leads the conference in both events.
The Choctaws have now collected 12 total GSC weekly awards this outdoor season — including five in the final two weeks — as they prepare to compete at the GSC Outdoor Track & Field Championships beginning next week.
