Mississippi College Sweeps Delta State to Close Regular Season with 34 Wins

CLINTON, Miss. — The Mississippi College softball team capped off its regular season with a sweep of Delta State on Saturday afternoon, picking up a 4-3 victory at the MC Softball Complex.

With the win, the Lady Choctaws improve to 34-15 overall and 22-11 in Gulf South Conference play. MC will now turn its attention to postseason play, returning to action Wednesday as they await their GSC Tournament opponent.

Camryn Bailey (14-6) earned the win in the circle for Mississippi College, tossing a complete game while scattering seven hits, allowing three earned runs, and striking out three.

After a scoreless first inning, MC broke through in the second as Caylee Comer delivered a two-run double to right-center, scoring Ashlyn Rodgers and Bailey for a 2-0 lead. The Lady Choctaws added to the advantage in the third inning when Sarah Lee lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to score Kallee Nichols, pushing the lead to 3-0.

Delta State (12-35, 6-27 GSC) fought back with a three-run fifth inning, highlighted by a two-run double from Katelyn Granberry and an RBI bunt single by Alex Cataldo to tie the game, 3-3.

Mississippi College answered in the bottom of the seventh, with Lee coming through again — this time with an RBI single to right-center, bringing home Blakely Gill with the go-ahead run and sealing the victory.

MC collected eight hits on the afternoon, led by Megan Matheis, who finished with a pair of singles, and Comer, who posted two RBIs. Shelby Samples, Gill, Bailey, Rodgers and Lee also added hits for the Lady Choctaws.

Delta State's Enderud (2-14) took the loss despite going 6.2 innings, allowing eight hits and four earned runs while striking out seven.

MC's regular-season finish locks them into a strong position heading into the GSC Tournament. First pitch for their tournament opener is set for Wednesday, with official seedings and matchups to be announced soon.
