CLINTON, Miss. — Mississippi College made history on Saturday, completing a stunning doubleheader sweep of No. 12 Delta State with a 10-2 win and a 23-1 rout at Frierson Field. The Choctaws (31-19, 21-12 Gulf South Conference) earned their first series victory over Delta State (32-16, 23-10) since 1993 — and their first-ever sweep of the powerhouse Statesmen.
In the opener,
Jordan Evans and J.T. Vance each homered, and
Caleb Peterson (4-4) struck out eight over six strong innings to lift MC to a 10-2 win.
Korey Cooper also delivered a three-run home run in the eighth to break the game wide open.
Delta State scratched across solo home runs from Brett Burrell and Dylan Dendy but could not overcome five early runs surrendered by starter Dylan Farley (7-4).
Game two was a complete runaway. The Choctaws scored 23 runs on 21 hits, putting up crooked numbers in each of the first five innings. The 23 runs are the second most scored this season. Vance went 4-for-4 with six RBI, including a two-run homer and a two-run triple. The triple is his seventh – moving him in to the top five in among the career leaders.
Tyler Jacobsen added two hits and drove in two runs as well.
Gabe Garner (6-3) earned the win in the nightcap, tossing five strong innings. Logan Eldridge (4-5) took the loss for Delta State, allowing five runs while recording just one out.
Delta State, which picked up the 2025 regular season title, committed two errors and used eight pitchers in the contest trying to slow down the Choctaws' relentless attack. The Blue and Gold scored 10 runs in the fourth inning alone. The last time a MC squad scored 10-plus runs in an inning was March 29, 2021 at Union.
The 30-plus win season is the eighth in program history and the second for 10-year head coach
Jeremy Haworth, who's 2018 squad recorded 36 - the second most in program history.
The Choctaws will be the four seed heading into the Gulf South Conference Tournament, which begins on Friday, May 2 in Oxford, Ala. Check GoChoctaws.com, Choctaw Athletic social media and the Athletics App for more details and information.
