MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Both Mississippi College tennis programs secured impressive victories in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Gulf South Conference Tennis Championships on Thursday at the O'Connor Tennis Center, with the fourth-seeded men's team downing Auburn Montgomery 4-2 and the second-seeded women's team defeating Valdosta State 4-0.
Men's Match: MC 4, AUM 2
After dropping the doubles point with losses at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, the Choctaws responded in singles play, winning four of the five completed matches to clinch the win over the fifth-seeded Warhawks.
ITA No. 4-ranked Alex Benichou Blanchard led the charge with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles. Rafael Sabio pulled out a gritty 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 4, while Alvaro Saint Martin added a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 5. Sergio Ramirez Ocana sealed the match at No. 6 with a 6-4, 6-4 result.
The win sends Mississippi College (17-9) into the semifinals, where they'll face top-seeded Valdosta State.
Women's Match: MC 4, VSU 0
The No. 18-ranked Lady Choctaws (19-6) wasted no time establishing control over Valdosta State, sweeping the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 before taking three straight-set singles matches.
At No. 6, Alizée Ripolles rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win to put MC up 2-0, followed by a 6-3, 6-0 victory from Ana Julissa De Mata Rodríguez at No. 3. Katharina Weber clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 4, sending the Choctaws into the GSC semifinals for the second consecutive season.
Both MC squads will return to action Friday, April 25, in semifinal play, as they look to earn a spot in the GSC title matches this weekend.
