PENSACOLA, Fla. — Mississippi College came up short in the rubber match against West Florida, falling 4-3 in Game 3 of the Gulf South Conference series on Saturday afternoon at the UWF Softball Complex. The Argonauts took the series 2-1 after the two teams split a Friday doubleheader.
The Lady Choctaws (31-15, 19-11 GSC) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning behind an RBI double from Madelyn England and an RBI single by Blakely Gill. England drove in two with her double to left center, scoring Shelby Samples and Ashley Lightcap, while Gill followed up by plating England.
West Florida (29-14, 20-10 GSC) responded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning. The Argos used a sacrifice fly from Emily Moon, RBI singles from Natalie Hayes and Emily Brice, and a heads-up baserunning play to take a 4-3 lead — one they would never relinquish.
MC outhit UWF 8-6 in the contest but left six runners on base. England and Gill each collected two hits to lead the Choctaws offensively.
Madison Jenkins (12-4) took the loss for MC, tossing a complete game with six hits and three strikeouts over six innings. Hannah Guffey (19-7) earned the win for West Florida, also going the distance with three strikeouts and just one walk.
