MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The No. 27 Mississippi College men's tennis team rolled to a 4-0 victory over Christian Brothers on Friday afternoon in non-Gulf South Conference action at the CBU Tennis Courts.
The Choctaws (15-9) secured the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. Rafael Sabio and Alex Benichou Blanchard, ranked No. 29 nationally in doubles, picked up a 6-4 win at the top spot, while Sergio Ramirez Ocana and Alvaro Saint Martin edged out a 7-6 (4) win on court three. The duo of Florian Walcher and Walker Ellis dropped their match 6-1 at No. 2.
In singles, MC wasted no time grabbing control of the match. Blanchard, ranked No. 2 nationally in singles, dominated Juan Ycaza 6-2, 6-1 at the top position. Walcher followed with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2, and Ramirez Ocana clinched the team victory with a 6-2, 6-1 win on court five.
Three matches went unfinished with the Choctaws leading in all of them, including a tight battle on court three between Sabio and Benjamin Hanriot and a comeback effort from Gustavo Tedesco on court four.
The Choctaws now turn their focus to the Gulf South Conference Tournament, where they will face Auburn Montgomery on Friday, April 25 at 2:30 p.m. CT in Montgomery, Ala.
