HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The Mississippi College softball team fell 2-0 to Alabama Huntsville in Saturday's Gulf South Conference series finale at Charger Park. With the loss, the Lady Choctaws dropped the series, 2-1, and moved to 30-13 overall and 18-9 in GSC play.
Despite clinching a spot in the upcoming Gulf South Conference Tournament, MC's offense was stifled by UAH right-hander Megan Shurtz, who tossed a complete-game three-hitter with six strikeouts and one walk.
The game's only runs came in the bottom of the fourth when Sadie Thompson launched a two-run homer to left, bringing home Alexa Douthitt and giving the Chargers (24-18, 16-10 GSC) all the offense they would need.
Camryn Bailey (13-5) was solid in the circle for Mississippi College, scattering four hits and striking out six over six innings, but took the tough-luck loss.
MC managed just three hits in the contest — singles from Shelby Samples, Bella Myers, and Caylee Comer — and had only four runners reach base.
The Lady Choctaws, who have already secured postseason play, now turn their attention to the final two GSC series of the regular season. They'll travel to West Florida next weekend before returning home to close out the schedule against Delta State in two weeks.
