Choctaws Take Series Over No. 2 AUM With Doubleheader Sweep

CLINTON, Miss. --- Mississippi College continued its impressive run on Friday, taking down No. 2 Auburn Montgomery in a doubleheader sweep at the MC Softball Complex. The victories mark the Choctaws third win over an NFCA Top-10 opponent this season, having also defeated No. 7 Augustana in their season opener.

With the 1-0 and 4-1 wins, MC (17-8, 7-4 GSC) extended its winning streak to eight games and secured a huge series victory over the Warhawks (15-5, 8-3 GSC) in Gulf South Conference play.

Game One: Mississippi College 1, Auburn Montgomery 0

In a classic pitcher's duel, Madison Jenkins (7-2) delivered a dominant performance in the circle and at the plate, leading the Choctaws to a 1-0 shutout victory.

Jenkins went the full seven innings, allowing just four hits while striking out seven and walking only one. The lone run of the game came in the bottom of the sixth inning when Jenkins launched a solo home run, breaking the scoreless tie and providing all the offense MC needed.

Auburn Montgomery's R. Cauley (8-2) took the loss, despite allowing just one run on one hit in three innings of relief.

Game Two: Mississippi College 4, Auburn Montgomery 1

The nightcap saw the Choctaws rally late, using a big four-run fifth inning to clinch the series with a 4-1 victory.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth, Ashley Lightcap reached base on an overturned call at first, sparking MC's offense. Camryn Bailey followed with an RBI double to tie the game at 1-1, and Blakely Gill delivered the decisive blow on a three-run home run to give the Choctaws a 4-1 lead.

Bailey (8-4) was stellar in the circle, tossing a complete game while allowing just one run on five hits with seven strikeouts. Auburn Montgomery's C. Newsome (6-2) took the loss, surrendering four runs (three earned) on four hits in five innings.
