Softball Dominates #21 Trevecca Nazarene in Doubleheader Sweep

CLINTON, Miss. ---  Mississippi College's softball team delivered an outstanding performance on Friday, March 21, 2025, sweeping Trevecca Nazarene in a doubleheader to claim the series. The Lady Choctaws took Game 1 with a 2-0 victory and followed it up with a 14-0 blowout in Game 2. With the series already in hand, MC will look to complete the sweep in Game 3 tomorrow at 1 p.m.

The first game of the day was a pitching duel, with Mississippi College edging Trevecca Nazarene 2-0. Camryn Bailey was stellar in the circle, throwing a complete-game shutout, allowing just four hits, and striking out six. Bailey's performance was key to the Lady Choctaws securing the win and improving her season record to 11-4.

The only runs of the game came in the fifth inning when Megan Matheis and Blakely Gill crossed home plate on a two-RBI single by Matheis to right center. That was all Bailey needed, as she finished strong to seal the win for the Choctaws.

Trevecca's ace, Ashley Sensing (13-5), put up a strong effort as well, giving up only two earned runs on seven hits. However, the Trojans' offense couldn't find a rhythm, managing just four hits and leaving seven runners stranded.

In the second game, Mississippi College came out swinging, overwhelming Trevecca Nazarene with a dominant 14-0 victory. The Choctaws scored an eye-popping nine runs in the first inning alone, fueled by clutch hits from Megan Matheis, Bella Myers, and Shelby Samples, along with a two-RBI double from Blakely Gill.

Madison Jenkins (10-2) earned the win, throwing three shutout innings, allowing only three hits, and striking out two. The Choctaws kept the pressure on, adding five more runs in the second and third innings, putting the game well out of reach for the Trojans.

Trevecca's pitching staff struggled throughout, with P. Herrin (2-2) taking the loss after giving up nine runs in just 0.1 innings. The Lady Trojans also made four errors, which only compounded the difficulty in containing the Choctaws' explosive offense. Trevecca managed only four hits in the game, unable to mount any real challenge against MC's pitchers.

With the series already in hand, Mississippi College will look to finish the sweep tomorrow at 1 p.m. at the MC Softball Complex. The Lady Choctaws will rely on their strong pitching and powerful offense as they look to continue their dominant play against Trevecca.
