SAINT LEO, Fla. — The No. 17 Mississippi College men's tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision to No. 15 Saint Leo on Tuesday in non-conference action.
The Lions (7-2) took control early, sweeping doubles play to secure the first point. The Choctaws' top duo of Alex Benichou Blanchard and Rafael Sabio fell 6-2 to Eduardo Cohen and Luis Iriarte, while Alvaro Saint Martin and Gustavo Tedesco dropped a 6-0 decision to Kodai Kato and Jose David Segovia. The No. 2 doubles match featuring Walker Ellis and Florian Walcher was left unfinished with the score tied at 3-3.
In singles play, Sergio Ramirez Ocana provided the lone point for Mississippi College (6-3), defeating Kato 7-5, 7-5 at the No. 4 position. Blanchard battled in a three-set match at No. 1 but ultimately fell to Vincent Thiel, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2. Saint Martin and Tedesco also suffered straight-set defeats at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively, sealing the victory for Saint Leo.
The Choctaws return to action on Thursday as they face No. 2 Barry in Miami Shores, Fla. First serve is set for 2 p.m. CT.
