SEARCY, Ark. --- The Mississippi College men's and women's tennis teams traveled to Harding University on Saturday, with the No. 19 women's team earning a 5-2 victory while the No. 17 men's team fell in a hard-fought 4-3 match.
Women's Tennis Secures 5-2 Win
The Lady Choctaws (5-0) remained undefeated with a strong performance, sweeping the doubles point before winning four of six singles matches.
In doubles, Anna Hudson and Alizee Ripolles won 6-2 at No. 1, while Rocio Martinez Azcarraga and Katharina Weber clinched the point with a 6-2 victory at No. 2. Ana Julissa De Mata and Ann Cabot Stockett completed the sweep with a 6-4 win at No. 3.
MC carried its momentum into singles play, with Martinez Azcarraga (6-4, 6-4), De Mata (6-4, 6-4), Weber (6-2, 6-2), and Hudson (6-3, 6-4) all earning straight-set victories. Harding picked up wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, but MC's early lead proved too much to overcome.
Men's Tennis Falls in Close 4-3 Match
The Choctaws (4-2) came up just short against Harding, dropping the doubles point before splitting singles play.
Harding swept doubles action, as Luis Agullo Diaz Munio and Cas de Ruiter defeated Alex Benichou Blanchard and Rafael Sabio 6-2 at No. 1, Florian Gayme and Cian Mikkelsen edged Alvaro Saint Martin and Florian Walcher 6-4 at No. 2, and Edoardo DArrigo and Caleb Folse won a tiebreaker 7-6 (7-4) against Sergio Ramirez Ocana and Gustavo Tedesco at No. 3.
In singles, MC responded with wins from Walcher (6-2, 6-4), Saint Martin (6-4, 6-4), and Ramirez Ocana (6-4, 6-4), but Harding sealed the match with victories at No. 1, No. 3, and No. 6.
