CLINTON, Miss. — The Mississippi College men's and women's tennis teams dominated at home on Friday, sweeping Jackson State 7-0 at the MC Tennis Complex.
The No. 19-ranked Lady Choctaws (2-0) controlled the match from start to finish, claiming the doubles point with decisive 6-2, 6-3, and 6-1 victories across all three courts. In singles play, Emma Roberts secured a hard-fought win at No. 1, overcoming Jackson State's Paula Corbalan in a 7-6, 2-6, 11-9 battle. Jules De Mata, Ricio Martinez, Katharina Weber, Alizee Ripolles, and Anna Hudson all posted straight-set victories to complete the sweep.
On the men's side, the No. 18-ranked Choctaws (2-0) also cruised past Jackson State. Alex Blanchard and Alvaro Saint Martin clinched the top doubles match with a 7-5 win, while Rafael Sabio and Gustavo Tedesco secured the No. 2 spot, 6-4. The third doubles match went to MC by forfeit.
In singles, Blanchard took a 6-3, 7-5 victory at No. 1, while Saint Martin, Florian Walcher, and Sabio each rallied for comeback wins in three-set thrillers. Tedesco dominated his match 6-3, 6-3, and MC also benefited from a forfeit at No. 6 singles.
Mississippi College returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 9, as both teams travel to face Georgia Gwinnett College in Lawrenceville, Ga., at 11 a.m. CT.
