BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Mississippi College's men's track and field team recorded several impressive finishes at the Gulf South Conference Indoor Championships, including multiple top-10 performances across a range of events.
The 60-meter dash saw a strong performance from junior Davion Smith, who finished third overall with a time of 6.91 seconds. Smith, along with teammates in the 200-meter dash, helped keep Mississippi College competitive throughout the meet. In the 200-meter finals, Smith ran a time of 22.13 seconds, finishing sixth in a competitive field.
In the Men's Long Jump, Damone Daniels (SO) led the way for Mississippi College with an impressive 7.12-meter jump, finishing in 1st place overall. The Choctaws also saw strong showings from James Miller (JR) and Christopher Garcia-Cloud (SR) in the Shot Put, finishing 4th and 5th with throws of 12.90m and 12.78m, respectively.
Mississippi College was also well-represented in the Men's Weight Throw, with James Miller claiming 1st place with a throw of 17.22m and Steven Conrad (JR) following closely behind in 2nd with 17.17m. Their performances were key in the Choctaws' overall point total.
In the 400-meter dash, Mississippi College was represented by senior Oliver Ollesch, who ran a time of 49.06 seconds, securing a fifth-place finish overall. In the 800-meter run, sophomore Evan Wrights placed second with a time of 1:52.82, just behind the winner from Alabama-Huntsville. The Choctaws also showcased talent in the mile run, with junior Christian Balcer finishing third at 4:07.50.
Mississippi College continued to make its mark in longer distances. In the men's 3000-meter run, senior Braedon Methvin placed sixth with a time of 8:21.69, and junior Carson Smith also impressed with a top-10 finish in the 5000-meter run.
In the relays, the men's team finished strongly, with the 4x400-meter relay team taking first place with a time of 3:14.88, just edging out Lee University and Montevallo.
In the team standings, Mississippi College finished 4th, with a total of 102 points. This performance places them among the top competitors in the conference, behind Alabama-Huntsville (228 points), Lee (Tenn.) (168 points), and Montevallo (111 points).
Mississippi College's depth and competitive spirit were evident in this year's indoor championships, highlighted by multiple standout performances across both sprints and distance events. The team is now poised for further success as the outdoor season approaches.
