Coleman, Olawoyin Shine in Loss at HSU

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. --- Mississippi College fell to Henderson State University, 83-67. MC moves to 1-2 on the season while the Reddies improve to 2-0.

Nia Coleman scored 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting, including one 3-pointer, and added three rebounds. Mariam Olawoyin posted 18 points, collected seven rebounds, and recorded three steals while shooting 9-for-15 from the field. Abigail Winslow contributed six points and grabbed two defensive rebounds. Valencia McFall added eight points and secured four rebounds, along with two steals.

The Blue and Gold quickly found themselves trailing 5–0 before McFall scored a layup at 8:06, putting them on the board. Despite solid contributions in the paint, MC struggled with turnovers, committing seven in the quarter. Coleman provided a spark with back-to-back scores, reducing the deficit to 13–10 at 4:06. However, HSU responded with a series of successful possessions to extend their lead, taking a 25-12 after the first 10 minutes.

MC initiated a strong push in the second quarter, narrowing the gap with a 6–0 run highlighted by Olawoyin's layup at 9:16 and a fast-break layup from Vivian Sketoe at 8:49. Despite turnovers, MC capitalized on the Reddies' mistakes, converting free throws by Coleman at 4:58 and 0:19 to stay competitive. HSU took a 40–28 lead at halftime.

The Blue and Gold showed resilience in the third quarter with a strong offensive presence despite trailing. Olawoyin sparked a run with consecutive layups, narrowing the gap to 51–38 at 5:53. Later, Channing Lane hit a 3-pointer at 2:07, bringing the score to 58–44. However, HSU maintained their lead, closing the quarter at 63–48.

The Choctaws started the fourth quarter looking to close the gap, with Coleman hitting a jumper at 8:32. Winslow contributed during a brief MC surge, scoring a fast-break layup and a jumper, reducing the deficit to 74-58 with 4:52 remaining. However, the Blue and Gold struggled to maintain momentum against HSU's consistent scoring, including a late fast-break layup by Macy Willis.

MC remains in Arkadelphia as it crosses College Street to take on Ouachita Baptist on Thursday, Nov. 20. Tip is 5:30 p.m.
