CLINTON, Miss. — The Mississippi College men's soccer team is headed to the NCAA Division II Championship, earning the No. 6 seed in the South Region when the national bracket was released Monday night.
The selection marks the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance under first-year head coach and GSC Coach of the Year Rafael Costa, who led the Choctaws to a 13-2-4 overall record and an unbeaten 9-0-2 mark in Gulf South Conference play.
MC will travel to Melbourne, Fla., to face No. 3 seed Florida Tech (8-2-8) in the opening round. The other half of the pod — featuring No. 2 seed Lynn and No. 7 seed Anderson (S.C.) — will be hosted by Lynn. The winners of the two first-round matchups will meet in the second round at the site of the highest remaining seed.
The Choctaws enter the NCAA Tournament following a strong postseason push that saw them reach the GSC Championship match before falling 2–0 to West Florida on Sunday. MC generated seven shots on goal in the final, including multiple chances from Sergio Garrido and Alvaro Pena, while goalkeeper Cole Turner recorded five saves.
Mississippi College's season was highlighted by a 10-match unbeaten streak, a 5-1-1 home record, and a dominant 7-0-3 performance on the road. The Choctaws climbed to No. 20 in the national rankings and posted one of the strongest defensive units in the region.
Game times and streaming details for the NCAA opening round will be announced by Florida Tech later this week.
