Lady Choctaws Fall 1-0 in Hard-Fought Battle at West Alabama

LIVINGSTON, Ala. — Mississippi College (4-6-3, 3-3-2) fell to West Alabama (9-2-2, 6-2-1) in a tight 1-0 contest on Sunday at the UWA Track and Soccer Complex.

The first half began with Mississippi College asserting early pressure, as Charlie Cooper and Summer Utzig each attempted shots in the opening minutes. The team continued to press forward, with Parker St. Amant and Lillie Young contributing additional shot attempts, though they did not find the target.

The Blue and Gold's defense held strong until the latter part of the half, with Celine Grothe making a crucial save against Selis Demirci's effort. However, West Alabama broke the deadlock with Demirci scoring in the 44th minute, giving the home team a 1-0 lead at the end of the half.

The second half began with MC on the attack, as Olivia Graham's early shot was saved by West Alabama's Yumari Hernandez. Grothe responded defensively, saving a shot from Demirci shortly after. The Choctaws maintained offensive pressure, with Cooper and St. Amant both taking shots, though they ultimately did not find the back of the net.

As the half continued, The Blue and Gold kept the intensity high, with multiple corner kicks and attempts on goal by Karah Boydstun and Young testing the opposition's defense. Despite these efforts, Hernandez's saves kept MC at bay. The half closed with the score unchanged, West Alabama leading 1-0.

Celine Grothe recorded four saves, facing 12 shots and allowing one goal in the match. Vail Wartes managed one shot on goal from her midfield position. Cooper and Olivia Graham each took two shots, with Cooper placing one on target. Boydstun led the team with two shots on goal, contributing to the offensive efforts.
