HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Mississippi College secured a 1-0 victory over UAH on Friday at Charger Park. The decisive goal was scored in the second half, marking a standout moment for Mississippi College. The Choctaws' defense held firm, with their goalkeeper recording five saves to complete the shutout.
The first half began with Mississippi College applying early pressure, earning multiple corner kicks and creating scoring opportunities. Amelie Spandet Wittenkamp and
Summer Utzig both registered shots, with Utzig's attempt saved by UAH's goalkeeper, CeCe Szopa, maintaining the scoreline.
Celine Grothe recorded key saves for The Blue and Gold, denying Evelina Gustafsson and Michella Tortelli to keep UAH from gaining an advantage. Despite a series of shots from
Olivia Graham and
Karah Boydstun, MC could not convert, as Szopa made crucial stops. The half concluded with both teams scoreless, setting the stage for a competitive second half.
The second half opened with Mississippi College applying pressure through multiple attempts, including a shot from
Vail Wartes just 30 seconds into the half.
Gracie Davis capitalized on this momentum, scoring a decisive goal at the 65th minute to break the deadlock and put MC ahead.
