HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Mississippi College defeated the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) 2-1 on Friday at Charger Park. The Choctaws took an early lead with a first-half goal and secured the win with a second goal after halftime.
UAH responded with a goal in the second half but could not equalize. MC recorded six shots on goal, while its defense limited UAH to four. Mississippi College took an early lead against UAH with
Russell Berko scoring in the 7th minute.
Berko continued to pressure the home team's defense, taking several shots throughout the period, though not all were on target. UAH's Sonny Wright made crucial saves, including one against
Lewis Matton's attempt in the 18th minute.
Cole Turner, guarding the Mississippi goal, also made a key save against UAH's Oli Orzechowski in the 19th minute. The period ended with The Blue and Gold maintaining a 1-0 advantage. The second period saw UAH equalize early in the 57th minute with a goal from Oli Orzechowski, leveling the score at 1-1.
MC regained the lead in the 66th minute when Matton scored, assisted by
Sergio Garrido, bringing the score to 2-1. Despite several fouls and a series of yellow cards on both sides, neither team was able to alter the scoreboard further.
The Choctaws held onto their lead until the end of the period, securing a 2-1 victory.
Russell Berko scored one goal on six shots, with three of those on target.
Sergio Garrido provided an assist and took one shot during the match.
Lewis Matton scored the game-winning goal, marking one of his two shots on target out of three attempts.
Cole Turner recorded three saves, facing five shots and allowing one goal to secure the win.
