BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. — Mississippi College defeated Blue Mountain Christian 5-2 on Monday at BMCU Sportsplex. The Choctaws scored all five goals in the first half, with four assists complementing the effort. Their offensive pressure resulted in 11 shots on goal out of 17 total shots. Blue Mountain Christian managed to score once in each half, but MC's defense, led by their goalkeeper with six saves, maintained the lead.
Mississippi College opened the first half against Blue Mountain Christian with an early goal by
Russell Berko in the 2nd minute, setting a dominant tone.
Alvaro Pena extended the lead to 2-0 in the 4th minute, capitalizing on a corner kick with an assist from
Sergio Garrido. Pena struck again in the 11th minute with assistance from Berko, making it 3-0. Blue Mountain Christian responded with a goal by Daniel Gomez in the 22nd minute, assisted by Elvis Ezendu, but The Blue and Gold maintained control.
Sergio Garrido netted the fourth goal for MC in the 38th minute with an assist from Ben Ellis, and
Ben Britton concluded the scoring for the half with a goal in the 44th minute, assisted by
Angel Carceles, ending the half with Mississippi College leading 5-1.
The second half saw Blue Mountain Christian's Arthur Menezes score in the 86th minute, assisted by Yalin Alici, bringing the score to 5-2 in favor of MC. Earlier, MC's
Callum Lee initiated the half with a corner kick in the 47th minute, followed by a high header attempt from
Angel Carceles. Blue Mountain Christian responded with multiple corner kicks taken by Kida Yamaguchi, leading to a blocked shot by Ben Mullins and a wide attempt by Elvis Ezendu. MC's
Lewis Matton had a high shot in the 77th minute, while goalkeeper
Daniel Tobaruela made a crucial save against a shot from Yalin Alici in the 86th minute.
Russell Berko contributed significantly by scoring one goal and adding one assist, with both his shots being on target.
